This is the story of how The Journey came to be in abbreviated form (it should be abbreviated since we have only been going for less than a year).
In the fall of 2004, God was directing Greg Zander, the Cultural Architect of The Journey, to step out and do something different. Through much prayer and searching, he came to realize that God wanted him to start a new church, a church that looks different from many of the others you may have encountered. So Greg spent the year 2005 preparing for this new adventure all the while being fully employed at Christ's Church of Effingham.
The first Sunday night in October 2005, a group of six people gathered together at Borders Cafe in Fairview Heights to talk about The Journey. Meeting the first and third Sunday nights, the group continued to grow.
Greg and his wife, Kathryn, moved to Caseyville, IL in January 2006 and Greg began to work with The Journey full-time. Once they moved into the area, there has been a weekly gathering of The Journey.
April 2006 The Journey began a second gathering in St. Louis as well as in Caseyville. On the first Sunday of each month, both groups gather for a shared meal and joint gathering time.
That is truly the abbreviated version. If you want a the full version, just talk to Greg.
